Basques in the West
The documentary Basques in the West tells the story of a people often overlooked in Western history. The story features Basques living in Idaho, Oregon, California, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, New Mexico and Nevada.
Why the Western United States?
The land was hard and unforgiving. How did they survive? Why did they choose this harsh hard high desert to live? If geography affects culture, then how were these new immigrants affected by their hard and unforgiving new home? Our interviews with several original Basque immigrants will reveal what type of fortitude was needed to persevere.
